Collaborators turn competitors as three Bristol-based marketing authors go head to head in the Small Business Book Awards.

Bristol, 14.05.14 – Two best-selling business books, written here in Bristol, have been nominated for the Small Business Book Awards 2014, and will now compete in a public vote for the category Community Award.

Watertight Marketing (Panoma Press, £14,99) by Bryony Thomas, was described by one reviewer as “one of the very best business reads I have had the pleasure of studying”, and gives business owners a comprehensive process to put a powerful marketing operation in place for their business.

Valuable Content Marketing (Kogan Page, £19.99) by Sonja Jefferson and Sharon Tanton, described by the prestigious New York Journal of Books as “an invaluable resource.” is written as a practical toolkit to give marketers up-to-date and detailed guidance on how to use high-quality content to drive the sales process.

Now in their 6th year, these awards celebrate the best business books that entrepreneurs, small business owners, CEOs, managers, and their people should put on their reading list. As well as a judged award for each category, there is Community Award selected by popular vote. Readers can vote once for each book in each category, and voting closes on 28 May 2014.

Nomination for this prestigious award is not the only the thing the three authors have in common. Both books were released in January 2013, and both have been picked out by the Chartered Institute of Marketing to feature as their Book of the Month. All three authors attended the University of Bristol, and now live and work in the city. They are also regular professional collaborators, working on common clients and sharing the conference stage as speakers.

Speaking of the nomination, Bryony Thomas says:
“Bristol has some phenomenal marketing talent, and I’m thrilled that the world has started to notice. It really is a shame we can’t both win! I hope the city gets behind us by voting for both, or either of our books.”

Adding to this, Sonja Jefferson says:
“It’s no coincidence that two books for small businesses have come out of this fantastic city. Bristol has become a thriving centre for entrepreneurial businesses in recent years. We are delighted to help put our city and the small business community on the international map.
